Cozy Summer Reading (wish) List

Instead of making a lists of books I HAVE read and recommend I decided to take everyone along with me and my personal summer reading list! This is a list of books I have not read but have either heard great things about or have just read the inside cover and decided it sounds amazing! I'm hoping to complete a book a week! Let me know if you have read any of these and what you thought about them! I am currently reading You are a Badass by Jen Sincero.

PLEASE enjoy these slightly out of focus shoots I took inside of Strand Bookstore in order to give you the realest deal possible! We're trying to be authentic for 2018! No internet stock picture pulls LOL Some of the items from this list are even straight from DM conversations and Instagram Stories because again: A-U-T-H-E-N-T-I-C-I-T-Y. (Did i spell that correctly?)

Oh well! Onto the list:

I mean come, on this title just speaks to me! I am so excited to read this book! Hence why it is numero uno on the list!

If you know me, which you do now. You would know that The Simpsons is one of my FAVORITE things (not just shows) of all time. I absolutely love how political and current this show continues to be even after some odd 30 years in production! Bart Simpson is the epitome of a generation X kid and a literal interpretation of how media and society affect children so to have a book that literally explains the writing of the show and ALL of the things that we as viewers FAILED to pick up on!? I CANNOT wait to read it! Hence the all caps.

This book really caught my eye as I have always seen David Leviathan's books but never read them. However this book was on the banned books table and anything that is labeled "Banned" is immediately worth reading! Exciting Exciting reading books esp romance books from LGBT perspective is always so fun and this is one of the OG's so I have to read it!

Honestly .....I'm kind of not sure what this book is about even after reading the inside flap. I'm a bit confused if the "vegetarian" thing is a parable for something else or....I keep reading up on it and it seems like one of those books you just have to dive into openly to truly get! Kind of like A Wrinkle in Time.

This one is more of an extremely long email chain rather than an actual novel but it still manages to tell the stories of 8 friends planning weddings and the opinions, frustrations and love that goes into every aspect of a #girlgang so all in all a nice easy subway read that I'm looking forward too. And that cover will look PERFECT on my coffee table or bookshelf in my living room. BC aesthetics are everything. Don;t let anyone lie and say otherwise.

EXTREMLY excited for this one! From what I understand in this novel Danler manages to express the trials, errors, dedication, journey and feelings of people in the culinary industry more perfectly than anyone has ever been able to before. Whilst I am not in the culinary field it was my second choice to content creation and I;m very interested to see what she has to say.

In today's current political climate (and I'm not just referring to Trump. that's the player not the game) I don't even know if the reason for reading THIS book even needs to be explained!

From the reviews I've read this book seems to look at the world and tell stories about it through a lens similar to Daria Morgendorffer or "Daria". The scariest part? When reading a book the takes a jab at the true horror of the world we find more displeasure in the fact that the punchlines are weak than the actual morals of the story. I think this is a book that should be read in a group to discuss.

As we near the end of the list I COULD NOT leave this one out! I avoided watching the movie purposely because fellow colleagues told me about how amazing and more intense the actual book is so I am definitely picking this up this summer!

I think this book is going to be the perfect follow up to "The color of law." I may purchase them both at the same time to feel even cooler at the bookstore check out because actually informing yourself is COOL.

HEHE this sure to be hilarious book full of essays (something Miss Yara Shahidi always encourages her peers to read) is going to be my reward to myself for actually becoming a more educated person through reading some of the other choices.

As I said before I am currently in the process of reading Your Are a Badass and I sort of read it just to get to this book initially. But that was before I knew how life changing and mindset changing that book is so now my excitement for the sequel is significantly heightened!

The topic of "Feminism" and the seemingly strict and complex sort of extreme definitions that the word has taken on is always a topic of interest to me so to have someone else write a series of essays (there's that word again) that stem from one initial and very relatable article is something I cannot resist, In fact I may move this one to the top of my list in retrospect.

What books are you reading this summer? I would love to know! have you read/ are you planning to read anything on my list? Leave it in the comments below!
