Produce, Collab and Repeat

Hey Everyone!

It seems that I’ve taken a bit of a hiatus on here! But either way I’m back with some very exciting content to share with all of you! This project is called “GenWE: Collidescope: But how it all came together is a testament to collaboration, networking and an insane amount of work effort.

What began as a sophomore year semester end project morphed into a portfolio building, career launching, network expanding piece that will always have such a special place in my heart.

My field of choice is Production, primarily for film and media but the role of  producer is often lost on most creative types and its differentiation from a “creative director” is extremely important to clarify. As a producer on most shoots I work to take the vision of the creative director and put the project together. I will:

  • Create the budget sheet for the project

  • “hire” the talent

  • secure the location

  • source a stylist

  • a photographer/ videographer

  • an editor (or do it myself)

  • Secure food + drink for day of the shoot

  • Then usually act as the “line producer” day of the shoot managing all of  back of house.

This job is incredibly efficient and important to getting the WORK done! Think of a major movie deal? The writers/ book writers will act as the creative direction but the PRODUCER runs the show efficiently. If you are a photographer that lives by that old adage “something always goes wrong at a shoot, or shoots never finish on time haha” thats a LIE. You just don’t have a producer and you should get one.

So getting to Produce this shoot under Paige Goodings creative direction was such an amazing opportunity to stretch my own creative ability. She sourced the looks, styled the models and set the theme and mood of the shoot while also making sure we were consistently on brand while I was able to Produce and Photograph the project. We also enlisted my great friend Lourdes Rojo as our videographer and the work she did for the project can only be described as marvelously breathtaking.

The coolest thing about this project is that by allowing everyone to pool their resources and flex their individual creative skill sets this project began to grow and grow until it surpassed our classroom (we received a 98% btw) and became a social media Ad campaign for the brand that we sourced the clothing from - Nineteenth Amendment!

Have you ever seen a group of friends that were SO different and yet irresistible?

This is GEN-WE:

And last but certainly not least! the video shoot and edited by my amazingly talented friend Lourdes Rojo! @lourdesro on instagram. Find more of her amazing work at lourdesrojo.com

SOUND ON!

Best,

Kayla
